Why we’ll never be a “guilt-free” brand

Why we’ll never be a “guilt-free” brand

Food is here to be enjoyed. It’s nourishing, it fuels your brain and your body, and, best of all, it’s delicious. There are no “good” or “bad” foods, and if you check – you’ll never find guilt listed as an ingredient. So what the hell is “guilt-free” food?

When food is labelled as “guilt-free”, it implies that food without that label will make you feel guilty. Aside from being completely and factually incorrect, this rhetoric is harmful and directly damages our relationship with food and consequently, how we feel about ourselves.

In 2022, it was reported that around 40% of Australian women experience body image issues. Body image is formed by the thoughts, beliefs and attitudes we hold toward our body, and it’s strongly influenced by the messaging we’re fed from our external environments.

The thing is, toxic diet culture still exists. Perhaps not as overtly as it did in the early 2000s, but now it just hides behind these terms like guilt-free, wellness, or detox. When you scratch below the surface, you’ll find it’s the same old diet culture wrapped up in a shiny “wellness” rebrand – prioritising thinness above physical or mental health. It’s pervasive, it’s harmful and honestly – it’s gotta stop.

At Daily Food, we’re passionate about making you fall in love with food again. Not just how it tastes (that’s the easy part), but with how it makes you feel.

Our mission is to build a positive food brand that helps you connect with the power that food has. Because it’s so much bigger than what our bodies look like. It’s the fuel that a balanced breakfast gives us, the joy found in an afternoon pastry run or the laughter and stories shared around a dinner table full of the people we love.

Through building small, daily habits around how we think about food, we can start to change these behaviours that toxic diet culture has drummed into us for years. It’s a big job, but we know we can do it together – one day at a time.
